Archaeology Backs Up the Bible

My husband recently preached on evidence for the Bible being true, and I wanted to share some of that on here for people who might come across this blog who aren’t yet Christians but are searching for truth.

Nelson Glueck was one of the world’s foremost archaeologists, wrote several books and spent a lot of time in Israel. He said this:

“It may be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a Biblical reference.”

For example the Sumerian Kings List is an ancient manuscript that was discovered and backs up the flood that is written about in the Bible – ‘then the flood swept over’.
The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered which proved the critics wrong who said that prophecies in the Bible were written after they had happened.
And many people and places have been verified through archaeological discoveries.
People used to say that Pontius Pilate, who the Bible talks about in the crucifixion of Jesus, didn’t exist. But then they discovered a large limestone rock with his inscription on it as a prefect of Judea.
Ultimately discoveries are found to only prove the Bible to be true, because the Bible is a historically accurate book. And if it is a historical book shouldn’t you also think about whether what it says about God and our need for forgiveness from sin is true?

I do get excited when the Bible is proved right! Sad thing is, some people can have all the ‘hard evidence’ in front of them and still refuse to ‘see’. Great post Rhoda – thank you.

Brilliant. I didn’t realize that archeology has never contradicted the Bible! What an interesting post!

Shirley Ann, I also love it when they turn around and prove the Bible after disagreeing with it 🙂

Anita thanks, I found it very interesting too!
