God Cares for The Robins…

I know it’s not a robin, but I think the robin was camera shy!

Yesterday I saw something that reminded me of a video I wanted to watch with my husband. I had to go out to the shed to get it, so I went outside and heard a fluttering of wings. There was a little robin trapped in our stack of outdoor chairs, under the plastic cover.

I think it must have got in on ground level where there was a gap, and then flown upward but couldn’t find it’s way out afterwards, so it just kept fluttering up trying to escape.

I spent about 5 minutes trying to undo the cover with alarming the bird too much and finally got it free. It stood on the ground and gave a few little chirps and then flew off, like it was saying thank you!

As I was walking to the shed I was thinking about how I don’t go out there very often, especially since it’s so muddy and cold outside right now. I very easily could not have gone outside today if it wasn’t for the thing that I saw that reminded me about the video that was in the shed…

And I thought, I bet God reminded me today so I could go out there and rescue that poor robin which would have been stuck a lot longer and quite possibly died if I hadn’t gone out then. I know that God does care about the birds, because of this wonderful verse:

Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. Matthew 6:29

And this reminded me again of how easily we forget that God cares for us – he cares for the birds and not even one falls to the ground without Him allowing it, so how much more does He then care for us:

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Matthew 6:30,31

So what does it mean for us – if God cares for us? Well it means we don’t need to be afraid, and it means that when we have worries we should take them to Him, because He will take care of them for us!

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
My favourite hymn about this is ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’, it really encourages us to take everything to God in prayer:
What a friend we have in Jesus,
 all our sins and griefs to bear!
 What a privilege to carry
 everything to God in prayer!
 O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
 all because we do not carry
 everything to God in prayer.

 Have we trials and temptations?
 Is there trouble anywhere?
 We should never be discouraged;
 take it to the Lord in prayer.
 Can we find a friend so faithful
 who will all our sorrows share?
 Jesus knows our every weakness;
 take it to the Lord in prayer.

 Are we weak and heavy laden,
 cumbered with a load of care?
 Precious Savior, still our refuge;
 take it to the Lord in prayer.
 Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
 Take it to the Lord in prayer!
 In his arms he’ll take and shield thee;
 thou wilt find a solace there.

  1. This reminded me of ‘The Shack’ which I’m currently re-reading. Mack discovers that Papa loves him more than he could ever have imagined despite the terrible circumstances he is in.

    He is lost and Papa seeks him out. He is angry and Papa loves him in and through that anger.

    Whatever we go through (like the trapped robin there may seem to be no way out) he shows us there is a way out.

    Praise him! HalleluYah! Father, we love you so much 🙂

    I have not read the Shack, but it does sound like a good picture of what God is like, in what you describe. And I love how you got from that that there is always a way out, which is very true too!

    Dear Rhonda
    Yes, dear one, having Him as our best friend, our Father, our Bridegroom our God, is the most wondrous gift we can have. We also have many birds in our garden and that is such a gift. Over via Sola Deo Gloria.
    Much love
    Mia

    Hi Rhoda, it’s been awhile but just wanted to leave a comment on this post. Your story is absolutely beautiful and just like our loving Father. It also reminds me of a similar episode where I was used to rescue a chick that fell out of it’s nest! I actually think that I was most blessed in the incident because I got to help something that was totally helpless, I wander whether YAH feels that He is the One who receives more when we allow Him to care for us?

    Hi Mia, yes having birds in our garden is a lovely gift!

    Hi Florence it’s lovely to hear from you again! I agree that I think we are so blessed when we get to help something like that – it is more blessed to give than to receive 🙂
